It's just a noise, no one's ever been, killed by noise

I have written about the noise nuisance twice by now, and this is the third one. The hotel room we stayed last night, we had terrible continuous motor noise by the kitchen generator. We complained about it but the receptionist told us that would be no problem by the time we go to bed as the kitchen would switch it off when they close. Guess what? As I half expected, it wasn't the case... and we lost sleep. When we complained again next morning, the receptionist just said, "Oh, the kitchen might have forgotten. Sorry mate." He did not take it particularly seriously.
I know it is not fair to generalise, but I cannot help about this point - AUSTRALIANS DO NOT CARE ABOUT NOISE!. But I understand that there are different common sense and intolerance in different cultures - in fact, in Australia, there are far stricter regulations about smoking and child safety, and some complains about such things as their neighbour's wall colour is too loud or eye-sore signs, which, to me, seems nothing.
