Empty shelves, make realise of, surprise close down

昨日いつものスーパーに行ったらなんか棚がスカスカで(トイレットペーパーだけでなく)、え?、と思って入り口を見たら今週末で店じまいをするというお知らせが貼り出されていました。数年前に大手外資系スーパーALDIに土地を買収されたことは知っていましたが、そのまま何年も動きがなかったのですっかり忘れていたところに今週突然の閉店。まあ私が知らなかっただけですが、びっくりしました。新開発にはなんでも反対、という立場ではありませんが、長年愛用してきた店なので少しさびしいですね。

I went to my usual supermarket yesterday and found quite a few shelves empty - not only toilet paper corner (no surprise) but many others. Then looked back and realised the notice on the entrance door saying they were closing down by the end of this week. Honestly, I felt like out of the blue, even I knew that big ALDI supermarket had acquired their property many years ago. To me it's happening so suddenly after no visible movements for many years. I am not totally against the new development, but feel a little sad as I have been their good customer for decades.
