Painting job, tells you're generous or skimpy

今日は裏のウッドデッキにオイルを塗る作業をしました。毎年の事ながらやり方に性格が顕著に出るようで、「あとで足りなくなったら困る」と控え目に塗り始める、典型的日本人の私と、「きっと大丈夫」と最初からたっぷりぼってり塗り始める典型的オージーの彼。私は「わあ、余ってしまいそう」と最後のほうで大胆に塗り始め、彼は「おっと、足りなくなっちゃう」と尻すぼみ。結局なんだかまだらになってしまうのはご愛嬌のうちでしょう。何年たっても学ばないねえ、お互い。

We have done the annual deck painting job today. I noticed how you do this job reveals some aspect of the individual character. I, a typical Japanese, start using the paint conservatively worrying it run out, on the contrary, my partner, a typical Aussie, starts generously not minding at all. Later, I realise I may leave too much then start going bold, while he realises it might be short then starts saving - which means, by us together, it ends up with a patchy deck - just to make it more interesting. We both haven't been learning lessons so far.
