Christmas is near, everyone wants money scarce of shifts

12月になっていよいよクリスマスシーズンです。会社勤めの頃は、仕事がペースダウンして早々と年末休暇に入る人も多く、ゆるゆると楽しい時期でした。しかし、カジュアルの今は、ペースダウンすなわち収入ダウン。大量のプレゼントを贈りあうオーストラリア人にとって何かと物入り金入りな時期で、シフトの争奪戦は熾烈を極めます。朝、「電話がかかってくるかも..」と恐々としていた頃が嘘のよう。

We have entered in December, the crazy Christmas season. When I was employed by a company this used to be a nice n' easy laid-back time. But now the reality for the casual workers: Less work means less money. We are literally fighting over the shifts to make up money for loads of gifts to give away (I don't buy them, though).  Wasn't I worrying of getting a call in the morning a few months back?
