End of winter, end of heater, start of shorts

今日は冬の最後の日、明日から春です。こう言うと違和感を覚える人が大半だと思いますが、オーストラリアではそういうことになっています。さらに有言実行。うちのパートナーは若いころは9月になると「もう春だから」とセーターを着るのを即やめてショートパンツをはき始めてました。ちまたでも半袖の人ばかりです。春の格好をすればほんとの春を呼び寄せられると信じているのかも。

This is the last day of winter and spring starts from tomorrow. Many Japanese may feel strange about Australian way of clear cut change of season. It's not just that, people start wearing T-shirt and shorts only because it's meant to be spring now, as if they think how they wear forces the real spring to come sooner.
