Proud Kyoto, do they love us or hate us?

京都に来るたびに地元の人々が観光客の私たちにとても親切で、丁寧で、腰が低いのを感じます。お店やレストランだけでなく、道を歩いている普通の人でもです。紅葉を前に今はシーズンオフということですが、それでもメジャーどころはもう人、人、人の波。交通機関もいつも満員だし、マナーの悪い人もいるし、住民はきっと迷惑を通り越して憎しみを覚えてるんじゃないかと心配します。態度に出さないのは大人だからですね。

I am always amazed how Kyoto people are kind and polite to us tourists, not only in shops and restaurants but ordinary people as well. Althouogh it is not the autumn peak season yet, I saw waves and waves of people in any major attractions, and buses and trains are always packed. I imagine the local residents are mad and really hate us because some of tourists have bad manners. But it may be their Kyoto pride that makes them to welcome us so nicely.
